First self portrait of the year and first time drawing completely digitally since last October. Took me a good three hours to do but it was a fun exercise and a nice break from work that still felt productive. Especially since I did this as an example of potential avatars kiddos can use for their school accounts. I'm really happy with this one. 😊

Day 1 of Year 8 at the Reach is officially in the books. As I've found myself saying frequently, it's going to be a weird year but engaging with students even through screens is still one of the most rewarding endeavors of my life. Super stoked to be back at it and am looking forward to what this year holds. We've got this, kiddos. Welcome back!

We're all aware that our schools and staff are not exempt from allowing racial bias to influence curriculum, interactions with students and fellow staff, and the overall oppression of BIPOC in the school system. A statement condemning the acts is not enough. Mandatory Inclusion and Diversity training for non-tenured teachers is not enough. HCPSS, we need to do more for our students, especially our most vulnerable ones. As much as I wish I didn't have to ask this of my students because goodness knows you've been through enough and you've probably talked about it enough- if you feel comfortable and safe enough to share your experiences, please consider doing so.

To my students both current and old, please know I'm here for you. I'm in your corner and I will work my hardest to be the best supporter of you. You are all amazing, brilliant, and wonderful people. It's because of you that I find fulfillment and joy in my work everyday. I miss you all so much. I am sorry that it has taken me this long to be vocal about the injustices you have faced and I will spend the rest of my life striving to be a better ally and teacher for you. You deserve the world. 🖤🖤🖤
