What equipment do you use for Photography?
For my digital photography, I use a Nikon D5500 DX-format Digital SLR w/ 18-55mm VR II Kit (Black). I shoot in RAW and tend to do most of my edits in Camera RAW though sometimes I do use Photoshop. I haven’t used Lightroom yet but I’ve heard good things. For my film photography, I use my Poppop’s Canon AE-1, tend towards Kentmere 400ISO film and print mostly on Ilford Multigrade FB Classic Glossy (what’s currently sitting in my school’s darkroom).
What pens do you use for inking?
I have great love for Microns! They are easily the best pens for inking (especially for nice intricate illustrations and comic drawings!). I’ve used Faber-Castlle, Prismacolor, and other pens but nothing does it for me like Microns. They don’t fade (under erasing or painting with watercolor), they have a really nice, dark black quality, and they’re pretty inexpensive!
What kind of sketchbook do you use?
I’m definitely the type of person that can’t finish a sketchbook and thus has multiple going at the same time. I like to try out all different kinds to though I will say I’ve very partial to classic, hard bound sketchbooks. I’ll get them from Michael’s, book stores, sometimes even grocery stores. I will say that Moleskine (while pricey) definitely have some of the nicest quality paper- especially if I’m working with paints.
Bullet Journal FAQ
What kind of journal do you use?
Like many bullet journalists, I enjoy Leuchtturm1917. They’ve got a really nice creamy paper, awesome dotted grids, and a good amount of pages too (unlike Moleskins which I breeze through in a matter of a couple of months- sometimes weeks if I’m feeling super creative.) The pages do sometimes bleed (though that really depends on the pens you use) but everything else (the amount of pages, quality of paper, size, and styles (dotted, graphed, lined, blank, etc.) more than make up for it. Plus, they come in a lot of fun colors. I’m currently working in a Lime Green one (the cover has been stained with random art materials over the past seven months) and love it! So much that I’m seriously debating trying them out as a sketchbook too!
What kind of pens/markers do you use?
Like many people who got into bullet journaling, I dived head first and bought a lot of stuff I honestly don’t end up using. Currently, my favorite pens to use are Kuretake’s Clean Color Dual Tipped Marker for their nice colors and no bleed and Pilot’s Metropolitan Fountain Pen. Brush Pen-wise I of course have to recommend Tombow, but I’m also a big fan of Kuretake’s No. 8 Brushpen (god – Kuretake everything really). I also play around with Pentel’s Aquash Brush Pens and watercolors too.
