Listed below are resources I use (or have used in the past) to run this blog/website. If you have any questions about a specific site or resource, don’t hesitate to contact me! I’ll get back to you ASAP.
dreamhost | Where I host all my domains. I moved to DreamHost back in 2004 with my first website (a site that shall now and forever never exist again though I hold fond memories for it as it taught me much about websites in general) and later left it in 2012 because money was tight and I needed a cheaper host. I learned my lesson the hard way (you really do get what you pay for, friends) and have since returned to DreamHost. While it is a little bit pricier than what I was paying at webhostingbuzz, the support at DreamHost is superior and I definitely would not change again. Also! Are you thinking about starting a blog/site of your own? If you click the link here you can get a discount and help me save some money too!
lightbox | Previous to WordPress (where the gallery is built right into the program) I used lightbox to showcase my artwork (still do on the portfolio site!). It’s a great bit of code that works wonderfully and looks sleek and professional.
w3schools.com | Learning HTML can seem daunting, especially if you’re teaching yourself. W3Schools.com is a great resource for learning basic coding and html. (Yes, it can even be applied to creating WordPress themes if you’re feeling adventurous).
adobe | Part of building a great website (or blog!) is creating interesting, dynamic, and original graphics. The Adobe Creative Cloud Suite tend to be the must have for that purpose. While there are many great (and cheap) alternatives, the art kid in me demands I offer up my pound of flesh (in this case $20/mo – thank you teacher/student discounts) for the entire package and for the most part – given how often I use it and the fact that my school laptop only has access to Photoshop, Bridge, and Lightroom – it’s worth it.
amazon affiliates | When I decided to start this blog, I knew I wanted it to be another source of income. While I love my job and my school and wouldn’t change my career for anything, I also can’t deny that it’s seriously hard to pay the bills on just a teacher’s salary. Amazon Affiliates is just one way of making income! Any time you purchase an item from the links provided on this site, you help put some change in my pocket (some of which will go to helping create new and good content for you). So thanks!
